What to Expect From Joining Pack One
Each year, the Pack leadership plans at least one hike, an opportunity to attend an overnight adventure at a nearby museum (additional cost), a Pinewood Derby race, and a Campfire "Graduation" Ceremony where Scouts advance to the next Rank. Optional Family Camping is also available during Graduation Weekend. We hope to participate in at least one parade.
Webelos and Arrow of Light Scouts take part in camping trips with a parent and the Boy Scout Troop 1 in the fall and spring in preparation for moving up to the Troop.
We aim to hold a large group Pack Meeting each month and sometimes these have themes- like Rockets, CSI Night, or Hometown Heroes. We also participate in service projects, like Scouting for Food, assembling lunches for Hopeloft, Road Cleanup, and ReTurn the Favor to help save horseshoe crabs at Money Island.
At bi-weekly den meetings, through games and other activities, Scouts work with other boys their age to learn about teamwork, nutrition, safety, citizenship, fitness, and outdoor skills like knot tying, pocketknife safety, setting up a tent, outdoor cooking, and more.
Members are also able to participate in Council-sponsored events like Cub Fun Day, Camp Roosevelt Adventure Day, Paul Bunyan Day, Cub Scout Range Adventure Days (BB Guns & Archery), Virtual programs, and Summer Camp. These sometimes have small additional fees.
Fundraising and Volunteering: We fund our scouting program by selling popcorn and meat sticks at community events and storefront booths. If every scout takes 2-3 two-hour shifts we can easily meet our goals and the kids can earn great prizes. We do not charge a Pack fee, in an effort to keep dues low, so we need to fundraise to help cover everyone's awards and neckerchief, materials for meetings, sometimes food at Pack events, and adult leader fees.
